And the most memorable holiday destinations are…
Venice is more than a city, it’s a lovely collection of 100+ islands navigated by canals and bridges. Ride a gondola past Renaissance and Gothic palaces, and don’t miss Piazza San Marco and the gorgeous views from the Campanile bell tower. Venice is also home to lovely shops and charming restaurants, and as we all know, there’s no such thing as a bad or even middling meal in Italy.
Escape the cold in Honolulu. The tropical city was one of last year’s top destinations and remains a perennial favorite with good reason: It has everything from beautiful beaches at Waikiki and the North Shore, hiking trails in lush rain forests, incredible views from Diamond Head, as well as snorkeling in crystal clear waters. Don’t forget to book a traditional Luau to really get you in the holiday mood.
London is unlike any place on earth: A 21-st century city with a long and colorful history going back to ancient Rome (and beyond). There is so much to see here, from Big Ben to Westminster Abbey but if you run short of time, just hop aboard the London Eye Ferris wheel for a panoramic view of everything. Make it a Dickensian Christmas or New Year’s with a traditional meal of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding or head to Soho to check out the latest in fabulous fusion fare.
If you love art and architecture, you’ll love Barcelona, with its brilliant and modernist landmarks designed by Gaudi including the Sagrada Familia church. The city is also home to the Picasso Museum, a beautiful waterfront area and the colorful La Rambla pedestrian boulevard, filled with shopping, food and street performers.
Prague is the perfect city for walking around and oohing and ahhing thanks to Wenceslas Square, the Astronomical Clock and Prague Castle. It’s also a thoroughly modern city with a hip vibe, tons of fun restaurants and a very lively nightlife.
This lovely old city is filled with historical buildings including some dating from the 1300s, as well as ancient homes that line Amsterdam’s network of canals. Visit the Rijksmuseum, maybe take in a rock concert, join in one of the city’s many festivals and don’t forget to try some Dutch delicacies like their cheese and chocolate.
What can you do in Helsinki? Ride a reindeer-drawn or husky-drawn sleigh; visit a fortress; enjoy the 40 national parks in Finland; and if you’re lucky, see the Northern Lights. Visitors say this is a very fun destination, and its people are a big part of that.
Goa is a state in the southwestern part of India probably best known for its white sandy beaches and tourists from around the world. Plus, year after year, Goa’s many night clubs earn it a place on top ten lists for best nightlife. People also rave about the food, too, like Pork Vindaloo and Tandoori Lobster.
Tokyo is one of the most impressive cities in the world with ancient temples and glitzy modern nightlife. Don’t miss the Senso-Ji Temple and take in some sumo wrestling. For those looking to experience the opulence of Tokyo, check out Minato Mira 21 (the Harbour of the Future), where you can enjoy a “robot dinner show” where robots and other performers will dance for you. And no trip to Tokyo is complete without trying some exquisite sushi and a cup of sake.
Reykjavik offers a gorgeous wind-swept vista of mountains and glaciers, geothermal pools and Icelandic wild horses. Or visit a whale museum, take a Viking tour, eat crab legs and sushi (and a lot more).
